I thought I was onto something when I opened Virtual Media Manager and noticed a slider that is supposed to allow you to resize the image, but I got a message saying that storage shrinking is currently not implemented. Note that you do need a CD (or ISO image of same): you cant boot a VirtualBox VM from a USB stick, though you can access USB media after the CD guest has booted. I looked at the manuals, but I'm still not getting it. I already said how to do it: create a VM (no need to install any OS), boot from the recovery CD supplied with the backup software, and run the restore function provided by it.
